Hello! My name is Trey Shiver and I’m teaching 8th grade English and Media Studies. A bit about myself: I’m from Athens, Georgia – a university town about an hour and a half east of Atlanta. Athens is a great town for live music, and while I was there, I created a video magazine called Monitor that focused on local bands. It was fun to get to meet the best local musicians, and I got pretty familiar with what Athens’ music had to offer. I’m looking forward to experiencing some of Monterrey’s best music, too!
I’m an avid reader and have been since I can remember. I read both fiction and non-fiction, and I have a soft spot for good poetry. Some of my favorite authors are Kurt Vonnegut, Pablo Neruda, Ernest Hemingway, Howard Zinn, and Noam Chomsky. In English, we’ll be studying some excellent material. I’m especially excited about our unit on The Giver!
For our Media Studies class, we’ll be examining the media and its role in our lives, so expect to be thinking about what kinds of media we consume, where it comes from, and what its purposes might be. We’re going to have a lot of fun this year so I hope you’re as excited as I am!
